SXSW Wildness!

Whats good everyone? Finally had a little bit of time to get my shit together and write a blog about my extremely exciting SXSW experience, haha. I could write a TON of stuff about SXSW and make this super long but instead I'll give some bullet points and then let you all take a look at the pictures I took and let them speak for themselves.

Prior to the music portion of SXSW I also checked out the film portion and saw "Pelada" (See earlier blog here and pictures), a film about street soccer played all over the world, and a movie called "Hood To Coast", about the annual Hood To Coast race sponsored by Nike in Oregon.

Both movies were super amazing and though I had no idea what to expect when going to see "Hood To Coast" I left absolutely blown away. It had beautiful imagery and looked into several really diverse groups that were racing and their lives and reasons for running. Some were super funny and others were really touching and heartwarming. It's picked up nationwide distribution and should be out in theaters soon. I highly recommend this movie, its all around touching and beautifully shot! (Shot by same crew that works "The Amazing Race" show on TV).

Now on to MUSIC SXSW!

Wednesday:

Attended a panel with A&R reps that signed acts ranging from Silversun Pickups, She & Him, and the A&R man responsible for unleashing Nickleback into the world...
Realized Music Lawyers are generally boring... haha
Watched Kid Sister live at the Mad Decent Carniville and she killed it, first time that the epicness of Rusko's "Pro Nails" hit me. Must have been the huge speakers, haha.
The Mad Decent Carniville was wild in general with actual carnival rides scattered all over the place, Diplo and crew doing it big!!
Hit up the Levi's/Rayban Faderfort and it was hipster central!
Caught Nas and Damian Marley as my last show and they KILLLLEEDD ITT! Real hip-hop in the building!

Thursday:

Saw Smokey Robinson give a keynote speech. Really crazy even being in the same room as him! Motown legend.
Interesting talk about why Girltalk and remix/mashup artists haven't been sued yet by record labels (For the most part).
Watched an awesome band from France called "General Elektriks" Peep their song "Raid The Radio" Really good, they are the next Phoenix, trust me.
Went to an A-Trak x Travis Barker show and was BLOWN AWAY, both are sooo extremely talented and amazing to watch.
Met A-Trak, Paul Wall, and Sammy Bananas. Paul Wall was just chilling in the corner, how random! haha.

Friday (One of my favorite days of all SXSW):

Met Jeremiah Edmond, previous drummer from Manchester Orchestra whom I love! Now Label head for Favorite Gentleman Records.
Met DIPLO!!! Amazing guy and got to talk production with him a little bit. Super chill and down to earth.
Saw Andrew WK use the bathroom right next to me! hahaha, Almost got a picture with him but he just left before I fully realized it was him.
Saw the wildest hipsters at the Mad Decent Carniville (Yes there are pics of them)
Went to catch DJ Benzi but missed him and saw Mike Posner chilling.
Went to the Fools Gold (Record Label) party put on by founders A-Trak and Nick Catchdubs and had a GREAT time. I was just talking to A-Trak, Catchdubs, Trackademicks, Sammy Bananas, and we were all hanging out having a great time. Everyone was super chill and down to earth which made it so much better. Check out the pic with Kid Sister photobombing us, haha.
Watched some great bands at FG party, including Theophilius London, Trackademicks, Kid Sister, The Suzans, and much more.
Snuck out of FG party for an hour to catch SUM 41!! One of my favorite bands ever. They were SUPERRRR hammered but really funny and KILLED it. So glad to catch them and also in a super small venue (Which might have not been as nice...).

Saturday:

I was pretty much deat tired today and it was also FREEZING cold so I only did several things before calling it a day.
Tried to catch Dilated Peoples but the line was way too long.
Went to Fader fort again and watched A-Trak kill a small 30min set. Wait till you hear his new Ducksauce music (Collabo with Armand Van Helden) all I can say is "BARBRA STREISAND" hahaha. Also was dropped some new Douster "King of Africa"
Lastly caught Major Lazer and seriously had one of the best times ever! They rank up there with the best shows I have ever attended including bands like Blink 182 or Brand New. Diplo's music selection was exactly what I loved and nonstop wildness while Skerrit Bwoy was probably the best hypeman in the world, hahaha. He was climbing stuff, stagediving, daggering... This was the best way for me to end my SXSW experience hands down. Can't wait to see them in concert again in April! I recommend them to everyone without a doubt!
